TipTap
The challenge
In restaurants in the Netherlands, often servers and kitchen staff don't get paid tips properly. Wether this is because tips don't go to parttime workers, or sometimes no employees get their tips and everything goes to the main chef who on paper does not own the restaurant. This is something I have experienced myself at three different establishments. So, I looked into it, and I am not the only one who is experiencing this. Though there are some guidelines on how tips should be handled, created by FNV Horeca (trade union in hospitality). But other than that, there are no clear requirements according to the law, apart from the fact that owners aren't allowed to keep it themselves.
The solution
An app in which employees of restaurants are able to receive tips accordingly to the amount of hours that they have worked. Every employee creates an account and customers can download the app to give out tips through the app. Additionally, to also make the app more interesting to users that would pay the tip, you can make reservations and build up with a loyalty program that keeps track of your food spending and reservations. The revenue model would be to charge a small fee for each payment, like 10 cents. Additionally, in a time where many restaurants are understaffed, the collaboration with a business that allows for fair tipping can make a restaurant appear more attractive to people looking for a job in hospitality.
